1873 Indian Head Cent. Open 3. PCGS graded MS-64 Red. A handsome specimen with nearly full original mint red and relatively mark free surfaces. A minor spot or two do not materially detract. The reason for the open 3 variety was that Chief Coiner Snowden complained that the closed 3 could be easily mistaken for an 8 on small denominations. His comments found the right ears, as the Mint Director promptly ordered changes to the open 3 on this and other denominations. Pop 45 with 20 in 65 Red and 4 in 66 Red (PCGS # 2107) .
Estimated Value $1,500 - 1,800.

Realized $2,128
