Lot 3302

Great Britain. Decimal Pattern Penny, 1961. Peck-2530. Officially struck by the British Royal Mint prior to the changeover to decimal coinage in Britain, this experimental Penny has an obverse identical to the farthing of 1954-1956. Obv: Head of Queen Elizabeth facing right, Reverse: monogrammed "EIIR 1 CENT. ONE DECIMAL PENNY. 1961". Very few of these landmark patterns (for the new small-diameter decimal penny introduced in 1969) actually exist, and this is a necessary addition to any serious British penny collection. Extremely Rare. Gorgeous mellow brick-red luster! NGC graded MS-64 Red & Brown.
Estimated Value $1,750 - 2,000.
The Cheshire Collection.

Realized $2,013
