Lot 3163

Great Britain. Bronze Proof Farthing, 1876-H. Victoria Bun Head. S-3959. Heaton mint. Normal 6. Collectors are sometimes fooled, by retailers and at auction, by the somewhat deceptive Prooflike examples of these Heaton coins, the farthings and the halfpennies alike. So too some graders, who hedge by calling them "Specimens." This confusion has gone on a long time, but those who remain confused should examine a coin like this, which is decidedly nothing but a Proof. In fact, this is one of the finest in existence. Despite the "RB" designation, it's at least 90% firey red, just a hint of oxidation having occurred. If you want to own a gleaming Gem Proof, take a look at this coin! NGC graded Proof 66 Red & Brown.
Estimated Value $500 - 600.
The Cheshire Collection.

Realized $604
