Lot 3106

Great Britain. Bronze Halfpenny, 1862. Victoria Bun Head. S-3956. About ten years ago, a small group of mint-red examples of this date suddenly appeared on the market in the UK. They were quickly absorbed by collectors seeing coins of a quality they never saw ordinarily. Perhaps a hundred or 150 in total came on the market at that time. Now they are seldom seen. This beautiful piece is surely from that group, showing firey full-red mint luster, and just a few tiny marks in the fields obviously made at the mint. Inexpensive but a prize nonetheless In London sales recently, lesser coins of this date have been selling for our estimate or above. NGC graded MS-65 Red.
Estimated Value $150 - 175.
The Cheshire Collection.

Realized $150
