Lot 2635

Great Britain. Proof gold 2 Pounds, 1831. S.3828; Fr-382; KM-718. William IV. As a Gem Proof 65 Ultra Cameo, maybe the finest known example of this rare coin. There were no 1831 £5 pieces, and the £2 piece is the highest denomination coin struck in the reign of William IV. Featuring the bare head of the King facing right and a reverse design of a crowned shield of arms and mantle this is a one-year type coin. Issued originally for inclusion in the Proof Set of the year, the £2 pieces are nearly always found in scuffed and scratched condition. This piece is truly exceptional. NGC graded Proof 65 Ultra Cameo.
Estimated Value $13,000 - 17,000.
The Cheshire Collection.

Realized $13,800
