Lot 1829

Russia. Anna Ivanovna (1693-1740). Daughter of Ivan V and a niece of Peter the Great. She was chosen by the Privy Council and made to sign a constitution modeled after Sweden's. After coming to power, she enlisted the support of the aristocracy and rescinded all prior concessions. She rejuvenated the Russian army and established the cadet corps. She intervened in the War of the Polish Succession and warred against the Turks. She also supported Russia's emerging interest in ballet.

Imperial Decree Signed as Czarina of Russia, January 31, 1732, Saint Petersburg, 1 page, 12½ x 8 in. In Russian, to Chamber paymaster Kaisarov, ordering that 300 rubles be issued to Egor Miliukov, Captain of the Life Guards. Fine condition. With translation.
