Three Athletes, Two Actors and an Artist. In 1954, Roger Bannister became the first man to run the mile in under four minutes. He did so with the help of pace setters Chris Brasher and Chris Chattaway. Sir Alec Guiness, a veteran of screen and stage for over fifty years is best known for his Oscar winning role in The Bridge on the River Kwai (1958) and later as Obi Wan Kenobi in the legendary film saga Star Wars. John Gielgud, a leading Shakespearean actor, has been celebrated for many parts. Leroy Neiman is an avidly collected contemporary painter specializing in sports subjects.

First Day Covers Signed. Lot of Three.

A. "Sport." Commemorative Postmark October 10, 1980 Edinburgh. Signed by Roger Bannister and his pace setters, Chris Brasher and Chris Chattaway.

B. "100 Years Going to the Pictures." Cover feature a silk linen scene from Casablanca. Commemorative Postmark April 16, 1996 Ealing, London. Signed on the front by Sir John Gielgud in black pen and Sir Alec Guiness in aquamarine pen.

C. "Europa '92." Cover features an elaborate Commemorative Postmark of "1492:1992 Columbus 500th Anniversary". Signed by Leroy Neiman across the front. With "Olympics '92" stamps and printed endorsement. Very Good.
