Lot 736

Roman Empire. Caligula, et al, 1st century AD. Lot of Five AE Sestertii. Caligula, 2 examples of: Pietas seated left / Caligula sacrificing at temple (RIC 44). One with deep pitting to both sides. Another, in brass, perhaps a Paduan. Two of Nero: Decursio Type (Lugdunum); some areas of porosity or roughness, but overall quite nice, with pleasing multi-colored patina. Also, Temple of Janus Type (Lugdunum); Head left, with green patina -- smoothing and a little tooling to reverse. Claudius: Spes left Type; careful old-time smoothing to fields; tooling to reverse. Vespasian: Divus Vespasian, extensively re-worked so as to become an interesting piece of "folk art." Careful inspection suggested. Lot of 6 coins.
Estimated Value $950 - 1,250.
