Lot 2488

1870-S $20 Liberty. PCGS graded AU-58 PQ. Soft golden surfaces that are original and swimming with luster. Olive iridescence in the obverse periphery. All surfaces are satiny, lustrous and uninterrupted by abrasions. The 1870-S is a scarce and undervalued Type II double eagle and they seldom come this nice, technically or aesthetically. The cheek of Liberty is nearly free from friction and close to uncirculated in quality. Luster is equal to that found on low mint state pieces. PCGS has never graded an example higher than MS61 and bidders should carefully inspect this choice specimen. PCGS population of 46 in AU-58, 6 in MS-60 and 9 in MS-61 as the finest (PCGS # 8959) .
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,200.
The Michael M. Magdic Collection.
