Lot 2371

1893 $10 Gold Liberty. SEGS graded Proof 61 Altered surfaces. A brilliant proof example that had the surfaces altered to mask heavier hairlines at stars 4-7. Additionally, evidence of improper cleaning is noted under the wings of the eagle. Regardless of the impaired condition of this proof, it should still attract interest from bidders who desire an example of a scarce Liberty eagle in proof format at a basal value. Only 55 proofs were produced in 1893 and in all fairness to this coin, we have seen examples with an assortment of more problems than this piece.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.

Realized $2,415
