Lot 2355

1888-O $10 Gold Liberty. PCGS graded MS-62. The 1888-O is often overlooked as a date because of the gap in time between the scarce and undervalued 1880-1883 New Orleans issues and the issuance of the 1888-O. While the 1888-O is not nearly as rare as the aforementioned rarities from the early 1880's, only 21,335 coins were produced in 1888 and examples are very rare in MS-63. The present coin is flashy and light yellow gold in appearance. There is a short diagonal scratch on the cheek. The reverse has delicate die cracks that are concentric and complete a full circle through all the reverse lettering. Overall an appealing and scarce New Orleans eagle. PCGS has graded 78 in MS-62, 15 in MS-63 and a single MS-64 as finest (PCGS # 8713) .
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,200.
The Michael M. Magdic Collection.

Realized $1,265
