Lot 2195

1854-O $3 Gold. PCGS graded AU-50 PQ. A breathtaking and well struck example of this key from the $3.00 gold series. This issue so often comes dipped and scrubbed up that an "AU" piece as choice as this is extremely rare. The present example has extremely clean surfaces and a mark-free cheek. There are light hairlines over fields that have original color and slight reflectivity. The date and mintmark are strongly impressed on the reverse. The New Orleans Mint only produced three dollar gold in 1854, to the tune of 24,000 pieces. Vastly undergraded and choice for the this issue (PCGS # 7971) .
Estimated Value $2,500 - 2,750.
The Michael M. Magdic Collection.

Realized $10,465
