Lot 1792

1879-CC Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-62 PQ. The 1879-CC is an issue that most likely was not released heavily into circulation during the 19th century. Most of the existing population in the lower mint state grades, and above, comes from the dispersement of bags during the 20th century that the San Fransisco Mint and Treasury Department had held at their locations. Regardless of this, it is well known that the 1879-CC is still a tougher Carson City date to locate and from the time frame of 1878-1885, the 1879 is the rarest Carson City dollar to find. The present example is white, frosty and choice for the grade. Were it not for a small scuff on the lower cheek, this piece would be a contender for the MS-64 grade. The quality of the reverse is basically gem and we feel the correct grade should be a nice compromise at MS-63 (PCGS # 7086) .
Estimated Value $3,300 - 3,600.
The Michael M. Magdic Collection.

Realized $4,600
