Lot 1766

1873-S Trade Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64. Stormy gray surfaces are highlighted by hints of golden toning. A fine, satiny luster rolls over the fields on both the obverse and reverse. This specimen is refreshingly free from abrasions and only the presence of light hairlines is noted. Strike weakness is noted on Liberty's head, breast and folds of the her gown. The 1873 San Francisco Trade Dollar had the lowest mintage for this series from San Francisco, only 703,000, and it is no surprise that the 1873-S is the rarest San Francisco Trade Dollar. Gem survivors are almost unknown and a pleasing near-gem piece such as this seems undervalued. PCGS population of 19 in MS-64 with only 3 in MS-65 as finest (PCGS # 7033) .
Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,300.

Realized $7,475
