Lot 1759

1872-CC Liberty Seated Dollar. PCGS graded AU-58 PQ. A memorable example of this scarce Carson City Seated dollar. Antique gray surfaces are enhanced by the slight reflectivity of the fields and the pleasing iridescent peripheral toning. A remarkably mark-free specimen with only faint hairlines in the fields. A raised die dot right of star 2. A small circular mint made planchet impression is seen in the right field left of star 13. The reverse possesses above average satiny luster. A single soft hit in the horizontal stripes of the shield is the only mark worth mentioning on the eagle. This 1872-CC dollar is very choice for the grade and should be considered as one of the finer examples to exist since examples rarely achieve grades higher than MS62. While the 1872-CC dollar is more common than the 1871-CC and 1873-CC, it is substantially more rare than the 1870-CC, about twice as rare in terms of the total number of specimens known. Only 3,150 pieces were struck and any uncirculated example is very rare and desirable. When the Eliasberg specimen was sold it was described as a MS61/MS62 prooflike example and noted as "Remarkable Mint State 1872-CC Dollar", we feel this specimen is very close to being just as remarkable. Population of 2 with 1 finer (PCGS # 6969) .
Estimated Value $10,000 - 13,000.
The Michael M. Magdic Collection.
