Lot 4608

(World War II War Crimes Trials). Three Acme wire photos, two from the Nuremberg Trials and one from the War Crimes Tribunal in Tokyo. The first, dated 9-22-45, is a 7 x 9 in. photo of the jail in Nuremberg where the Nazi war criminals were kept. The second, dated 12-5-45, is 6 x 8 in. and shows German foreign minister Joachim von Ribbentrop shielding his face as he eats GI chow with Nazi party leader and Hitler deputy Rudolf Hess, who flew to England in 1941 to try and end the war on his own; Ribbentrop was hanged and Hess got life imprisonment. The third, dated 11-12-48. shows Japanese war leaders standing as their sentences are delivered. A white arrow designates Gen. Hideki Tojo, who authorized the attack on Pearl Harbor; he and six others received the death penalty; the rest were imprisoned. The first two photos have the original wire blurbs on verso; red pencil markings to copy on 3rd photo.
