Hess, thanking him for condolences "on the lamentable occasion of the death of my beloved son, at Buena Vista….And my gratitude is due to the whole community for the sympathy which it feels for me. But alas! my heart constantly reminds me of my irreparable loss, and I feel too sensibly that effectual relief can only come from Him who has permitted this great affliction. / In respect to the enquiry…I have to say that in Kentucky the Bill of discovery exists and is used in like manner as it is in England and in States of this Union which have established Courts of Chancery."
