Lot 2074

Sicily. Syracuse, c. 415-405 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.1 g). Signed by EY. Scarce. Charioteer in speeding quadriga left, Nike above and flying right to crown him; beneath horses a tiny EY. Reverse: Head of Arethusa left, with hair bound in ampyx and sphhendone, four dolphins around clockwise; ethnic above. Tudeer 29; SNG ANS 261 (same dies). Obverse die less worn than usually seen; the portrait finely styled. Good metal and old collection toning. Very Fine.
Estimated Value $500 - 600.
Ex: This lovely coin was produced at a time when Euainetos, Eucleidas, and Eumenes were all working at the Syracusan mint, and all in a similar style, making it somewhat risky to assign the dies to any one engraver in particular.

Realized $604
