Lot 186

Flying Eagle Cent. 1858, 8 over 7. MS-64. The first of two fantastic examples of this rare Flying Eagle overdate variety. In our opinion, this specimen is most likely one of the finer examples we have handled. Straight from an old time collection and presented here raw after being removed from an NGC holder, we are sure this lot will receive spirited bidding. A beautiful balance of soft iridescence over both obverse and reverse surfaces. Just observing the satiny texture and fresh condition of the surfaces allows one to immediately conclude that this piece has been off the market for quite some time. An early die state with the 7 clearly above the second 8 in the date. Diagnostic die lump above date, in field below eagle. Radial luster exists and we really cannot find any marks or problems to mention. A coin like this is always a pleasure to handle and present to our customers. NGC has not graded any specimens higher than MS64, while PCGS has graded 24 MS64's and 4 MS65's. We feel confident this superb cent will be remembered as one of the finest!.
Estimated Value $17,000 - 19,000.
