Lot 1670

$5 Gold Liberty. 1904-S. PCGS graded MS-64. Light original film over otherwise radiant and lustrous fields. Upon closer inspection with magnification one will not find a multitude of hairlines under the film. The surfaces possess rich orange-gold coloration and the absence of any disturbing marks. The 1904-S half eagle had a mintage of only 97,000 pieces, a significant drop after the large scale productions of the 1901-S, 1902-S and 1903-S. Considered a better date in all mint state grades, this specimen is a significant rarity and probably undervalued in the present near-gem condition. PCGS has graded 2 with only 5 finer (PCGS # 8410) .
Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500.

Realized $5,463
