Lot 1469

1871 Pattern Half Dollar. Copper, reeded edge. Judd-1117. Pollock-1253. NGC graded Proof 65 Brown. A very significant appearance of this High Rarity-7 pattern half dollar. A regular die trials piece struck in copper and one of only 3 specimens known to exist. A combination of brass highlights with underlying subtle magenta tones. Surfaces have a slight frosty appearance to them. The year 1871 saw Longacre's seated Indian princess on many Standard Silver pattern issues but the regular die trials pieces are scarce. This regular die trials piece was struck in copper, aluminum and nickel. Identified by a small raised die line above the center of the breast and by small raised die lines on the second 1 in the date. Do not miss this opportunity to acquire this important rarity. NGC has graded only 2 examples, the present piece and a Proof 67RB example.
Estimated Value $12,000 - 15,000.
