Sale 26

Lot 1464

1870 Pattern Half Dollar. Silver, plain edge. Judd-964. Pollock-1060. PCGS graded Proof 64. Gorgeous iridescent toning with blue, violet and teal hues over charcoal fields. Liberty's device is a softer steel gray with radial luster originating from the base of the hair, creating a sharp definition between the fields and device. The reverse has a sharp wreath of laurel and oak leaves graced with undertones of gun-metal blue. Light hairlines on both obverse and reverse fields, but by no means disturbing. When this specimen sold in the Eliasberg Sale it was described as "One of the Finest Known" and we absolutely agree. Housed in an older PCGS green label holder with Eliasberg on the tag. Low-Rarity 7, only six specimens graded total by PCGS. PCGS has graded 2 in this grade with only a single PR65 finer (PCGS # 61210) .
Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,000.
