Lot 1112

Morgan Dollar. 1892-S. PCGS graded AU-55. A popular key date that is often overlooked in nice AU and is quite a bargain at the present grade level. Nice AU58 luster rolls across a well struck 1892-S that still has original mint frost. Light hairlines exist in the fields and some original magenta toning has started to appear in the obverse periphery. No serious marks or scratches can be found and the strike definition of the curl above the ear is slightly soft but above average.

Key dates in the Morgan Dollar series have experienced a huge surge in demand in today's coin market. While 1889-CC's and 1893-S's get more attention than the 1892-S, the 1892-S (more often seen in VF or low XF) is a legitimate rarity in choice AU and a full fledged Classic in mint state. Currnet Monthly greysheet bid in AU50 is $1,300 and in MS60 it is $24,500! Comparing the 1892-S against other well known "keys" of this series will support the notion that this date is seriously undervalued. The quality conscious and value driven collector or investor should give this lot seroius thought and bid accordingly (PCGS # 7218) .
Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,500.

Realized $3,680
