Lot 642

1806 Draped Bust Quarter Dollar. Browning-5a. Rarity-6. PCGS graded MS-63. An old friend from 1987, when we sold it (as Superior Galleries) as part of the Cal Neva Club collection: "…Perfect obverse die; reverse crack from the left wing to the rim…This is one of the finest Draped Bust Heraldic Eagle Quarters we have handled in many years. While this coin has many factors in its favor, what immediately comes to mind is its strictly original appearance. Both sides are lustrous and exhibit rich, reddish gold undertones below even rose gray surfaces. The obverse is well struck while the central reverse is, as always, weak. This lovely coin has virginal surfaces and we feel that the grade, which PCGS has assigned it, was somewhat on the conservative side. Besides being an exceptional type coin, this is a very rare variety in this grade and we regard this coin as a candidate for one of the Finest Known. Discovered in Europe a few years ago." Still housed in the first-generation, green-label holder in which it originally appeared!
Estimated Value $6,000 - 7,000.
