Columbian Centinel And Massachusetts Federalist. Boston, Massachusetts, January 25, 1800, 20 x 12 in., 4 pages. Large front page, two column description of "Continuation of Funeral Honors in Memory of Sainted Washington…paid by the troops stationed at Oxford." There follows an extensive and detailed description of the entire funerary march, beginning with sixteen guns fired at daybreak, fife and drum brigades, the carrying of a bier and the order of pall bearers, and "the General's horse covered with black, properly caparisoned; boots reversed; led by two servants in livery." A large, monumental obelish, 4½ feet high, with the inscription, "Washington He lives in our hearts." was carried by Master Masons. Much more. Tattered left edge from book-bound removal, not affecting story. Nice dark printed imprint with light overall toning. Handsome and suitable for framing.
