In part, "I appreciate your position and recognize my own….I have a lot of stuff, but to say more than I did in the little piece in my book would put me in a different position with reference to people who are alive and doing well enough without being pulled through a mess of sexual oddities….If you'll send me your mss [manuscript] (preferably next summer when I'll be in Chilmark, Mass…) I'll see what I can add without sticking my neck out." Light folds, else Fine. Chilmark is a small community in southwest Martha's Vineyard; in 1938, Benton painted a well-known work entitled "Chilmark." The first edition of his book, An Artist In America, which is likely the book mentioned here, was published in 1937.
