Snuff Box, c. 1834. English, 3 inches in diameter and 5/8 inch in height, made from wood from the House of Commons after it burned in 1834. Previously, the House of Commons had met in the chapter house of Westminster Abbey; the fire destroyed the whole palace except the historic Westminster Hall and St. Stephen's Chapel. Probably English oak, well handled with smooth patina. A ¾ inch ivory medallion is inlaid to the cover, engraved "House of Commons Burnt / Octr. 10, 1834.".
