Lot 126

Snuff Box, c. 1810-1830. French, 3 inches in diameter and approximately ¾ inch in height. Made of French burwood, with raised battle scene--numerous soldiers with fixed bayonets stand before a man on his knees, his arms around an officer's waist, obviously pleading for his life. In French below, "Le soldat Français meurt et ne se rend pas" (A French soldier dies and doesn't give up). Small dark areas in lid that may be part of wood. Nice workmanship.
Estimated Value $250 - 350.
