Calabria. Tarentum, c. 334-332 BC. AR Nomos (6.32 g). Very Rare obverse type, showing wonderful artistry -- among the best designed and executed dies in the entire Tarentine series. Youth on restless horse right being crowned by Nike, another youth to right tries to restrain horse; Ξ below. Reverse: Taras on dolphin left, shell behind; ethnic below. Vlasto 529 (same dies); cf. Dewing 126. Obverse strike slightly soft, but fully detailed -- with several short die breaks evident. Overstruck on uncertain under type. Slight but colorful toning. Choice Very Fine, or better. Estimated Value $600 - 900
