Cobb, Ty. He also adds two post-scripts; one expressing his sympathy over the passing of someone named Bing, and the second, a lengthy recommendation that the recipient put any idle money into Coca Cola. (1886-1961) Nicknamed the Georgia Peach. An outstanding hitter and baserunner, had over 4000 base hits in his 23-year career with Detroit and Philadelphia. This mark stood for 57 years until broken in 1985. His career batting average is an all-time record at .367, and he led the American League 12 times in batting.

Autograph Letter Signed Five pages, recto (recto-verso on fifth), Quarto, on personal "Tyrus R. Cobb / Glenbrook, Douglas County / Nevada" stationery, October 26, 1953. Penned in green ink. In part (errors intact, punctuation very irregular):

"Dear Sal: I have a letter from Taylor Spink also yours to him relative to book matter. I feel I have failed to explain properly and in this to clear up matters. / I received sometime ago a letter from Taylor about your doing something about me for him & Sporting News, I readily gave consent, I did not understand it was to be a book or full story. / I at once wrote you that I had several offers for a book or so called memoirs also a moving picture thing more than once this I might say. I could not be interested for any control and would want as to material used those jewish boys promise but pay no attention & go ahead, picture comes out and I would be jumping down every mans throat with spite, and in general be a "hell cat" and every body who saw such a picture would think ill of me so I do not care for such and it has always hurt me deep, it happens to be the real weak spot in whatever armor I have… "

Cobb goes on to discuss (in a very convoluted manner) a prospective book deal which he's not too enthusiastic about embarking upon; his return from pheasant hunting in South Dakota; and a Gene Schor book which he feels is plagaristic and a travesty.

Estimated Value $4,500-UP.
