Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 2

Lot 1585

1853-D. NGC graded MS-61. Prooflike in the fields and boldly struck for this Mint. The surfaces show a few marks, accounting for the grade, but they are microscopic and unimportant. A low 6,583 were struck, few of which survive today, with perhaps a dozen known in the various gradations of Mint State. Few can even be called choice. Ever popular for the Dahlonega mintmark, this scarce coin is sure to please any demanding collector. One notes a minor scrape in the obverse field before Liberty's face, and light hairlines in the delicate fields. Well preserved and eye-appealing.
