Lot 2267

Group of Four Decorative, Glazed Ceramic Wares. Iran or India, c. mid-20th century, or earlier. The stoneware vessels white-glazed, and painted primarily in black and blue, with accents of brown, green and violet. The two largest, perhaps small jardeniers, are identical, with scene of seated, emaciated holy man (Buddha?), holding a hare, while a bird nests in his hair. Surrounding him are a variety of beasts, including a lion, peacock, and zebu bull. To the left of him sits a female attendant. Above, a frieze of stylized Kufic script. Another smaller pot of similar style shows a wilderness scene of a lion pouncing on an ibex, and another long-horned goat. Last, and perhaps older, is what appears to be the base of a hookah, the larger mouth chipped, with smaller nipple-like spout to the side. Rest of vessels show handling use, with insignificant to modest chipping to rims. Heights: 7-1/4" - 11-1/4". Lot of 4 items.
Estimated Value $300 - 500.

Realized $173
