Wirths' Circus. [Probably 1949 or 1955], 14 x 40 in. Streamer. Lithograph. Victory Publicity Ptg. Ltd. Featuring numerous circus acts and advertising the show's return to Australia after a successful tour in New Zealand. Signed by an artist at lower right (name illegible). Condition: A-. A 1½ inch tear at top right and other minor edge tears; a few tape remnants in lower margin. The Wirths were a famous circus family who began operating in Australia before 1900 and were in business at least until the early 1960s. May Wirth (1894-1978) performed in England and America, as well as in her native Australia--her somersaults performed on the back of a cantering horse made her one of Ringling Bros.' superstars of the 1910s and 1920s.
