Lot 1249

St. Louis, Louisiana Purchase Exposition, 1904. A Fair Group of Button and Silks. New for this Fair was the use of celluloid-covered badges. Here we have a number, alone,or in combination with ribbons. One with red center having a section rail track, and emblazoned "Missouri Pacific Railway." Another full color badge, with Missouri State Building for Missouri Day, Oct. 11. Another metal and celluloid badge, this (like the paperweight seen elsewhere) with photo inset of the painting of the Cascade Gardens, "St. Louis" above. Best, is a humorous button showing a donkey bucking off a pretty, scantily clad young lady, with this exposition's slogan around: "Meet Me at the World's Fair." Ribbons with badges: badge with Fair's fleur-de-lis flag, in red, white, blue, and gold, the attached ribbons colored likewise; one more ribbon in the same colors, this one wide, with wire fringe at base, and swagged flag and fleur-de-lis bar at top; Nebraska state ribbon, with State Seal in color, the ribbon a U.S. Flag; and a veteran's exposition ribbon in yellowed and soiled creme-colored satin, for the " L. of G.A.R., Missouri," with Louisiana Purchase badge having star with busts of Jefferson and Napoleon, and historic flags in each of the arms. Lastly a nicely framed product silk, literally, for Chardonnet, of Besançon, France, in blue on white, with crossed American and French flags, and trademark emblem of two caterpillars flanking a retort flask. Ribbons generally very fine or better, but do show some age. Badges very good to excellent. Sizes: 1-1/4" - 8-3/4". An interesting and varied assortment. Lot of 9 pieces.
Estimated Value $125 - 250.
