Columbian World's Fair, Chicago, 1892-1893. A Postal Rarity. A "Columbian Souvenir Stamp Book." The narrow, vertical pocket album in finely made tan leather, with each exteriorcover having a large mica window in which are laid down two U.S. Columbus stamps. The front with 1¢ and 2¢ stamps, the stamp's vignettes with Columbus sighting land, and the Landing Scene, which is replicated on so many of the Fair's souvenirs. The back cover with 3¢ and 4¢ stamps, having the "Flag Ship of Columbus," and the "Fleet of Columbus." Laid within the album's glassine pages are recent supplements of 5¢, 6¢, 8¢, and 15¢ stamps, in modern stamp capsules. These stamps with scenes of Columbus soliciting aid of Isabella, being welcomed at Barcelona, being restored to favor, and announcing his discovery to their Majesties. Album stamps pristine, but lightly faded. Interior stamps crisp and vivid, but all show hinge marks. The leather album Very Fine plus, a few of the glassine pages a bit loose. Size: 3-1/2" x 1-3/4". Interesting and rare!
