1882. Haiku Plantation 1 Rial, copper. MS-60+. A scarce example of this Maui token. These were struck to pay laborers on the plantation and doubtless circulated as the main source of money for Maui at the time. Listed as item #42 in the Gould-Bressett reference in Hawaiian Coins, Tokens and Paper Money. Rare and seldom offered, especially with such nice surfaces and mint color. All early Hawaiian coinage and tokens are highly sought after.
