1874. Franklin Institute Silver Medal by Christian Gobrecht awarded to Thomas Dixon & Sons in the original box. A beautiful silver medal that is housed in the original case of issue by H. H. Peacock of Philadelphia. The medal has minor hairlines, but lovely gold toning over the prooflike fields. On the reverse we note the medal states "REWARD OF SKILL AND INGENUITY" and is ornately engraved "To Thos. S. Dixon & Sons/Philad'a Pa/ For Low Down/ And Elevated Grates/ 1874. The box shows some wear, and the medal is quite beautiful in every way. Token and Medal Society reference by R. W. Julian #AM-17. Doubtless very popular for the rendition of Benjamin Franklin by Christian Gobrecht. Gobrecht was paid $100 for engraving the dies in 1824/5. Mint records state that only 175 were minted of this medal for various awards.
Estimated Value $450-UP.

Realized $368
