Lot 1111

1937 Roanoke Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-67. Stunning deep gold and red toning from the original paper holder, the reverse with the "tab" toning apparent. Rarely are Roanoke's found in such superlative condition, much less with fantastic color! In particular note the richness of the reds as you near the obverse periphery, and a few flecks of iridescent green are thrown in for good measure. On the reverse we see white luster near the center, with much deeper reddish gold around the periphery on the lower portion of the coin, brighter iridescent greens and golds at the top. Boldly struck, complete with a realistic pout on Virginia Dare's tiny face. An outstanding example for the specialist. PCGS has graded only 185 this high, and importantly just 10 higher, all MS-68 above (PCGS # 9367) .
Estimated Value $900-UP.
