Sicily. Syracuse, c. 480-475 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.2 g). Bearded charioteer in slow quadriga right; Nike, above right, crowns horses. Reverse: Head of Arethusa right, wearing beaded headband, surrounded by four dolphins; ethnic at right. Boehringer 148; Randazzo 311 (same dies); Dewing 709. Obverse nicely centered and unusually well struck up. Reverse a little off center, but a choice, sharp strike, with residual luster. Arethusa in pleasing archaic style. Lightly toned. Extremely Fine.
