1857-S. PCGS graded MS-65 PQ. Spiked Shield. Well struck and intensely lustrous with satiny surfaces throughout. An incredible gem that will please any specialist who demands high quality and rich eye appeal. The surfaces are outstanding with nary a tick to be found and blazing luster throughout. These freshly minted double eagles were being shipped to the east coast for general circulation, but never quite made it with their unscheduled detour of 135 years or more on the ocean floor off North Carolina.
