Lot 1209

1876. PCGS graded MS-67. Well struck and fully bright. Nice prooflike fields on both sides which offset the frosted devices. So few were struck that the dies never lost their original polish. It is curious that so few were made this year for this denomination, as it was the Centennial year of the United States and there were celebrations far and wide in this country. This is a glittering superb gem with unending eye appeal and glorious quality for the numismatist to long enjoy. Tied with just a couple of others as the finest seen of this date! Only 3,200 struck. Pop 3; tied for the highest graded examples at both services. (PCGS # 7577) Estimated Value $20,000 - UP
