Lot 843

A Scrumptious Silver Case, with Dancing Maenad. Russia, c. 1900-1915. The case is a narrow rectangle, with rounded edges and corners, and spring button catch. On the top a maeanad, nude (with a truly fine figure), stands twisted around, with arm raised, lost in the ecstasy of music and dance. Her hair is loose and disheveled, while she holds a tambourine in raised hand, and a double flute in the other. Around her are emblems of music and fertile vegetation. The interior with most of gilding within. Hallmarks are: oval with classical female head right, and 84. Maker's marks, LP, within rectangle. The button catch is in silver. Size: 4-1/4 x 3-1/8 x 7/16." In choice condition, with very handsome toning to the scene on the lid. A delightful objet d'art. Be prepared to fight for this one. These mildly "erotic" cases all always very popular.
Estimated Value $500 - 650.
