STS-51-L, Shuttle Challenger Crew Signed Covers. Scobee, Smith, Resnik, Onizuka, McNair and McCauliffe on One Cover, Jarvis on Another, Framed. On January 28, 1986, tragedy struck during liftoff of the Challenger on what was to be a joyous moment in the NASA space program, having a teacher, Christa McAuliffe in space scheduled to host experiments designed to inspire students, honor teachers, and spur interest in mathematics, science, and space exploration. 73 seconds into liftoff a joint seal in the right solid rocket booster failed resulting in an explosion and disintegration of the Shuttle killing all 7 crew members. A beautifully presented tribute to this crew of two signed covers postmarked day of launch, one from Titusville, Florida Astronaut Trail Station, the other Kennedy Space Center. On the top cover, Dick Scobee, Mike Smith, Judy Resnik, Ellison Onizuka, Ronald McNair and S. Christa McAuliffe have all signed with Greg Jarvis signing a second cover. Both covers presented with a NASA color litho of the crew all professionally matted and framed in gilt wood to 24 x 16". All pieces in superior condition. Estimated Value $1,800 - UP
