[George IV] Set of Letters and Free Franks Sent to the Future George IV While He Was Prince Regent. Interesting collection of notables close to "Prinny," as George IV was known by his friends while Prince Regent. George, Prince of Wales, was the eldest son of George III, and was named Prince Regent when his father became too mentally unstable to rule (1811-20). Free franks include 4th Earl of Jersey, George Bussey Villiers; 2nd Earl of Sefton, William Philip Moyneux; Richard "Humanity" Martin, 5th Duke of Rutland, John Henry Manners; Lord Petersham, Charles Stanhope; George IV's physician and friend, William Knighton; playwright and noted fop, Sir Lumley St. George Skeffington; 5th Duke of Bedford, Francis Russell; Marquis of Worcester, Henry Charles Somerset; Lord Yarmouth, Francis Charles Seymore-Ingram; 6th Duke of Argyle, George William Campbell; MP for Bath Charles Palmer; 3rd Baron Foley of Kidderminster, Thomas Foley; and the 11th Duke of Norfolk, Charles Howard.
Signed items other than free franks include a clipped valediction by famous dandy George "Beau" Brummel; Signed note by 7th Duke of Beaufort, Henry Somerset; ALS by Colonel George Hanger; a receipt signed by Foreign Secretary Charles James Fox; co-signed note by close friend to Prinny and Beau Brummel, Frederick "Poodle" Byng; and letter signed by 2nd Marquis of Hertferd, Francis Seymore-Ingram.
