French Revolutionaries - Group of Eleven Powerful Members of The Committee of Public Safety and/or the Directory. Lot includes six items, signed by eleven men. Paul Barras, one of the most powerful members of The Directory, which ruled France from Nov. 2, 1795 until Nov. 9, 1799, when Napoleon took power by the coup of 18 Brumaire and The Directory was replaced by the Consulate, with Napoleon as First Consul. 1797 LS by Barras as Director to the Min. of the Interior. François Barthélemy, briefly a member of The Directory. May 1814 ALS as a member of the French Chamber of Peers. Jacques Claude Beugnot, Member of the Feuillants and the Girondists during the French Revolution; he was imprisoned from Oct. 1793 until The Directory came into power in Nov. 1795. 1811 LS as Civil Administrator of Berg-Cleves. Philippe Antoine Merlin de Douai, Min. of Justice and one of five Directors; he voted for the execution of Louis XVI. 1795 LS as Min. of Justice. Antoine Christophe Saliceti, as deputy to the National Convention he voted for the death of Louis XVI, minister of police and war in Naples, 1808 DS to Min. of Navy in Naples.
Seven men signed the same document, dated Sept. 18, 1794, being a report to the Committee of Public Safety : Charles Cochin de Lapparent, minister of police, participated in the fall of Robespierre; he was twice deported. Jean-François Delmas, member of Com. of Pub. Safety who went mad. Pierre Antoine Laloy, pres. of the National Convention from Nov. 6-Nov. 21, 1793. Claude-Antoine Prieur-Duvernois, engineer, member of the Legislative Assembly and the National Convention and of the Com. of Pub. Safety; he voted for the execution of Louis XVI. Under the Directory, he sat in the Council of Five Hundred until Napoleon's coup. Antoine François Fourcroy, scientist and member of the Com. of Pub. Safety; and Lazare Carnot, member of the Com. of Pub. Safety, Director of the French Directory, Pres. of the Nat'l Convention. Philippe Merlin de Douai also signed this report. All items are fine. During the Reign of Terror (Sept. 5, 1793-July 27, 1794), France was ruled by the Committee of Public Safety, led by Robespierre, until his arrest and death by guillotine on July 28, 1794.
