Apollo-Soyuz: 150 8 x 10" Photos Half B&W and Half Color, Publicity Photographs of the Visiting Cosmonauts in the US, Astronauts in Russia. The Apollo-Soyuz Test Project was the first international human spaceflight that brought together the two superpowers of the time, The Soviet Union and the United States. On July 15, 1975, an Apollo spacecraft launched carrying a crew of three and docked two days later on July 17, with a Soyuz spacecraft and its crew of two. Not only a significant exercise politically it was designed to test the compatibility of rendezvous and docking systems and the possibility of an international space rescue. The docking module was designed and constructed by NASA to serve as an airlock and transfer corridor between the two craft. The mission proved a spectacular media opportunity for both countries which clearly this collection proves. Fantastic (and some quite amusing) photos of the Soviet delegation including Leonov and Kubasov at a casual reception with President Gerald Ford at the White House, visiting memorials in DC, the Johnson Space Center, great photos visiting Disney World and more. Then the reverse is chronicled with photos of Slayton, Brand and Stafford visiting the Soviet Union, viewing the construction of the Soyuz 7K-TM spacecraft and visiting sites. The collection was well kept, the black and white photos particularly nice, many photos rarely seen and almost all with printed press information on verso. The color photos, about half have red serial numbers and printed press information, and the other half none at all. All the color photos exhibit the usual Kodak paper turn-to-red dye instability common with 40 year old photos printed on Kodak paper and the heat and humidity of Houston. But they capture beautifully an important moment in NASA history. Estimated Value $250 - UP

Realized $408
