Napoleonic Wars -- Collection of All 26 Marshals of France Appointed by Napoleon Between 1804 and 1815. Marshal of France, or Marshal of the Empire, was a title which had been abolished in 1793 but was reinstated by Napoleon in 1804. He appointed 26 Marshals between 1804 and 1815. Each of them is represented in this lot by a signed item. They are: Charles Pierre François Augereau (1807 ALS); Jean Baptiste Jules de Bernadotte (Signed pass into the Ministry of War--he was elected King of Sweden in 1818); Louis Alexandre Berthier (1800 DS); Jean-Baptiste Bessières (1798 ADS for rations); Guillaume Marie Anne Brune (1801 LS re promotion of an Italian officer); Louis Nicholas Davout (May 14,1815 PPDS--orders to Gen. Delaang as Min. of War); Laurent Gouvion St. Cyr (1815 LS as Min. of War); Emmanuel de Grouchy (1796 ALS to Vice Adm. Martin); Jean-Baptiste Jourdan (1830 LS); François Etienne Kellerman (LS); Jean Lannes (1806 LS); François-Joseph Lefebvre (LS as Gen. Com. Mil. Div.); Etienne Jacques Joseph Alexandre Macdonald (1818 PPDS as Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor); August Frédéric Louis Viesse de Marmont, Duke of Ragusa (ALS as Ragusa); André Masséna (1797 LS as Gen. in Chief of Army of Italy); Bon Adrien Jannot de Moncey (1807 DS re a Hessian POW); Adolphe Edouard Casimir Joseph Mortier (1792 DS); Joachim Murat (1798 DS--Murat married Napoleon's sister Caroline in 1800 and was appointed King of Naples by Napoleon in 1808); Michel Ney (ALS as Marshal); Nicolas Charles Oudinot (1816 PPDS); Dominique de Pérignon (1801 AES as Marshal on a Certif. of Service); Jozef Anton Poniatowski (1809 PPDS--a Patent for the Order of Virtuti Militari as Min. of War of Poland); Jean Mathieu Philibert Sérurier (1811 ALS to America); Nicolas Jean de Dieu Soult (1808 LS as Duke of Dalmatia); Louis Gabriel Suchet (1796 DS); and Claude Victor Perrin (1823 LS as Min. of War, signed as Duke of Belluna). Also present are letters written by the wives of Bernadotte, Bessières, Lannes, Marmont, and Oudinot. All items are in fine condition. This lot should be examined in person to be appreciated. Entire collection is housed in a leather and canvas sleeved folio with several of the manuscripts having expert translations. Estimated Value $3,000 - UP
