Beautiful Pair of German Scheibe Alsbach Napoleonic Porcelain Soldiers on Horseback. Scheibe-Alsbach porcelain pieces from the town of Scheibe in the Thiringia district of Germany. The company was founded in the early 19th Century and changed hands early on and enjoyed a storied history. From 1962 to 1990 Scheibe-Alsbach and other companies were encouraged to increase production, and therefore revenue, and all fell under state supervision. It was privatized again in 1990 to Porzellanmanufaktur Scheibe-Alsbach G.M.B.H. Through their 150+ history, the porcelain created has been prized, especially their line of Napoleonic-era soldiers and horsemen. Here a cavalry drummer of Napoleon's Imperial Guard "Garde Impériale" and a Marshal (Soult) are perfectly paired. Each is beautifully hand painted, with the striking gold gilt Napoleonic eagles prominently in view on the four corners of the base. Both stand at about 11 x 8 x 3" and are without chips, cracks or repairs; however, original drumsticks are missing from the Imperial Guard but we will include the consignor's replacements made of wood that look great. The Imperial Guard is marked in glaze at base with the Scheibe-Alsbach mark of an "S" with a sideways "X", the Marshal with pressed mark "19" at base and "Germany" stamped on base. A fantastic pair, perfect for any home or office decor. Estimated Value $500 - UP
