Remington, Frederic (After). The Wicked Pony. (1861-1909) In Remington's third sculpture, "The Wicked Pony," Remington reversed the dominance of the cowboy over horse as depicted in his most popular work, "Bronco Buster" (an exceptionally fine posthumous casting is available in this auction.) Inspired by a real-life event he witnessed, this Remington bronze sculpture depicts a fallen rider attempting to wrestle his horse to the ground in a desperate attempt to regain control. Grabbing the animal's ear with one hand, the rider's body is vulnerable as the horse retaliates by kicking the rider with his hind legs. In The Wicked Pony, Frederic Remington has memorialized the harsh reality and untamed forces of the Old West. Offered is a posthumous casting of this work likely from the 1970's and certainly a quality piece. Sculpture measures 19 x 18 x 7½" and sits on a crescent shaped marble base 1¼ x 10 x 20". In excellent condition, we note only a small discoloration to back side of marble near base of bronze. Estimated Value $900 - UP

Realized $510
