Lot 696

1811. Tall 5. PCGS graded MS-65. This is an amazing coin. First off, despite a mintage of 99,581 pieces struck only 225 have survived to today according to CoinFacts. This example is one of the top three reported, just a point below the MS-66 and finest from the Pogue Collection in that sold in 2016. Boldly struck on all of Liberty's curls and the stars, as well as on the eagle's feathers and legends surrounding them. Both dies show bold clashing evidence in the fields. Frosty and untoned with glittering luster and struck in classic bright yellow gold. The surfaces are simply amazing to examine, with nary any signs of handling to be found, and no distracting adjustment marks. An incredible Gem early half eagle that will stand tall in even the most advanced collection. Pop 2; 1 finer in 66. (PCGS # 8110) Estimated Value $80,000 - UP
